Inspiration Sunday - Instagram Edition

This week's inspiration is all about TYPE. It's found everywhere - on the huge billboards that fill Times Square, in the films/television we watch and is the bones of every magazine/blog/newspaper that's published. The world be a terribly boring place without the talented designers out there that are creating beautiful fonts and typography for all of us to enjoy. Here are some of the insanely inspiring Instagram accounts that I've been following lately:

Birds

I like sketching birds whenever I can. These were drawn while watching a program on NatGeo about the different species and their migration patterns. This time around I tried using a bigger sketchpad with broader strokes.

Sketchbook

I started to color this in photoshop but decided I liked it as a pencil. Before I was even finished with the sketch, "Olivia" made sure to add her mark: name and freckles. A collaboration. :-)

Cruisin'

I recently got back from a wonderful Carnival Cruise vacation to the Bahamas. Between adventuring around the ship and frying like a tomato on the beaches, I was able to get a few sketches in.

Spring Studio

Two Sundays ago I attended the Sunday model session at Spring Studio in SOHO with Peter Emmerich, Lewie Smith and Ryan Jampole. It was fantastic. The atmosphere was quite cozy and allowed me to just get into the fun of drawing.

Model Class

I've been enjoying these open studios. They allow for a calm, no stress environment... something that is hard to find in my life sometimes.

Model Class

I finally got around to taking a model class at the Art League of Long Island this week. Super excited about it because it was the first time I had been to the new building! The model was wonderful and the people in the class were mellow and easy going... made the experience very enjoyable. I hope to get to a few more next week before school starts up again.

Fly Away

I had used a similar character in an Illustration Friday awhile back and felt that I wanted to keep working on him... see where I could take it. He's still a WIP and doesn't have a name yet but I love him just the same.

Sunny Day

It was such a nice day out yesterday that I decided to go out and sketch while my parents did some yard work. I probably should have participated...

Man on the Train

For the first time I was able to sit on the train today and sketch.
It's been a long time since I did a drawing because I wanted to do it and not because it was due for class.

This particular man was amusing to watch because as he fell asleep his head would bobble every which way and it was a slight challenge to get his features just right.

But as they say "practice makes perfect", so I need to get crackin'!
